6 Tips to Discover Your Core Values As An Artist or Creative

Artists and creatives, are you feeling a bit lost or uncertain about what truly matters to you in life? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We all go through moments where we question our purpose and values. But fear not, because today we’re going to dive into the exciting journey of discovering your core values. Buckle up and get ready to uncover what truly makes you tick!

1. Reflect on Your Experiences:

Take a moment to reflect on your life experiences. What moments have brought you the most joy, fulfillment, or a sense of purpose? Think about the times when you felt the most alive, passionate, or deeply connected to something. Identify the values that were present during those experiences. Maybe it was the feeling of freedom, creativity, or connection.

2. Identify Your Priorities:

Consider what you prioritize in your life. Is it family, career, personal growth, adventure, or something else entirely? Take a look at how you spend your time, energy, and resources. Your priorities often align with your core values. Identifying these priorities can help you uncover what truly matters to you. For example, if you consistently prioritize spending quality time with loved ones over work, it may indicate that relationships and connection are important to you.

3. Pay Attention to Your Emotions:

Our emotions can be powerful indicators of our core values. Take note of the moments when you feel strongly about something, whether it’s excitement, anger, or a deep sense of injustice. These emotional responses can point you towards the values that are most important to you.

4. Explore Your Passions:

What activities or causes ignite a fire within you? Whether it’s volunteering, painting, writing, or advocating for a social issue, your passions can provide valuable insights into your core values. Follow your heart and explore these passions to uncover what truly resonates with you.

5. Seek Inspiration:

Look up to people you admire or find inspiring. What qualities or values do they possess that resonate with you? Whether it’s a public figure, a friend, or a family member, the values they embody can give you a glimpse into what you hold dear. Use their stories as a source of inspiration on your own journey of self-discovery.

6. Identify Your Non-Negotiables:

Take a moment to consider what you absolutely cannot compromise on in your life. These are your non-negotiables, the values that you hold dear and are unwilling to compromise for anyone or anything. Whether it’s honesty, respect, or personal growth, these non-negotiables are a clear reflection of your core values.

Bonus Tip: Be Open to Growth:

Remember that discovering your core values is a lifelong journey. As you grow and evolve, your values may shift or become more refined. Embrace this process of growth and be open to new experiences and perspectives. Stay curious, keep learning, and allow yourself the freedom to explore and redefine your core values along the way.

By reflecting on your experiences, identifying your priorities, paying attention to your emotions, exploring your passions, seeking inspiration, embracing self-reflection, and being open to growth, you’ll gradually unveil what truly matters to you. Embrace your core values and let them guide you towards a more authentic and fulfilling life.
