Introducing Multi-Passionate Artists Podcast

Hello and welcome to Multi-Passionate Artists

Yes, we have a new name and focus for this podcast.

The first 73 episodes under the name Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive! include many amazing interviews with musicians, actors, dancers and industry influencers.

Guests have included musicians Akon, Bif Naked, Maestro Fresh Wes, The Road Hammers, actor/musician Michael Des Barres, actors Cara Pifko, Jennifer Pielak, Monica Plante, and Glenn Scarpelli, Broadway stars Capathia Jenkins and Bret Shuford, music producers Timbaland and Joe Solo, acting coaches Mel Mack, Adrian Griffin, and Catherine Mcnally, dancer/choreographers Travis Knights and Kevin Ormsby, and vocal coaches Lorraine Lawson and Judy Rodman.

As the show evolves into Multi-passionate Artists, I hope to dig deeper into creativity, mindset and entrepreneurship.

The mindset piece is tough when the specialist society that we live in doesn’t always understand us. Whenever I have heard the advice to niche down, pick one thing and stick with it in order to succeed, it felt like they were saying that I had to hide parts of who I was.

Even in my coaching business, I tried to niche down in my messaging to focus on musicians and actors, (my own coaches still wanted me to pick one or the other), but even with keeping the 2 niches, it never felt right.

A weird thing is like I felt like I was always begging to be in other people’s clubs and always felt like an outsider. So my new mission is to form my own club.

Yes, I love helping musicians and actors, but my favourite clients have been the singer, songwriter, animator, filmmaker or the actor, writer, director, producer or the singer, songwriter, yoga instructor who also wanted to get into sound healing.

These are my people. And I am honored to be your coach through this podcast to encourage you to embrace all of your talents and interests because multipotentiality is your superpower.

As a multi-passionate artist, I’m on a mission to challenge the saying “jack of all trades, master of none” because have you met us? We are Renaissance souls, limitless in our capacities for knowledge and development. When multipassionists have a new interest, we dive in 100% and learn everything we can about it. Here are a few things I have accomplished…

I had a 16-year career as an arts and entertainment publicist working with the likes of Perry Farrell, Sass Jordan, Big Sugar, DOA, The Parlotones, Mackenzie Phillips, Robert Loggia, Robb Wells, and Tyler Blackburn.

For 10+ years, I was a makeup artist on sets with David Foster, K-os, and I Mother Earth, and backstage at major fashion shows.

My creative journey began as a photographer specializing in fashion photography, which was my focus for about 5 years.

Along the way, I also held the titles of pr & marketing coach, music journalist, artist manager, jewelry designer, pet care specialist, and I often return to photography.

I was a serial specialist who is now creating an umbrella career.

Today, I draw on all of that knowledge and experience, 30 years of being a creative entrepreneur,  to empower multi-passionate artists to embrace your talents, ambitions, and story in order to slide into the spotlight with the impact & income to match.

Yes, you can be a …

Singer, songwriter, dancer, record producer, actor, tv/film producer, fashion & beauty brand (Jennifer Lopez)

Actor, comedian, writer, director, record producer, singer, songwriter, rapper, DJ’ (Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino)

Actor, model, dancer, tv/film producer with billion-dollar biz empire with the Honest Company (Jessica Alba)

or whatever your fabulously unique combination of talents and ambitions are.

The Multi-Passionate Artists podcast will include conversations with artists, musicians, actors, dancers, painters, photographers, and other creative souls on their journey, process, and entrepreneurship. Solo shows will offer coaching on how to create the life and career of your dreams.

Let’s celebrate being a multipotentialite, scanner, Renaissance soul, polymath, serial specialist, or whatever term feeds your soul.

Now, I’m sure many of you are thinking that all sounds interesting but I’ve never heard of those terms and am not really sure what you are talking about.

Multipotentiality is an educational and psychological term referring to the ability and preference of a person, particularly one of strong intellectual or artistic curiosity, to excel in two or more different fields.

I first discovered it after watching Emilie Wapnick’s ted talk “why some of us don’t have one true calling.”

When she shared her journey of getting passionate about one thing, diving into it 100% and then get bored, move on to another thing and think that was her calling and then getting bored. Then the next thing 100% and so on. The careers were different but I felt like she was telling my story.

And most importantly she addressed the negative self-talk many of us have when we notice this pattern in ourselves and wonder if there is something wrong with us, why can’t I stick with anything, do I fear success?

But that is just what multipotentiality is. Often when we master something or learn enough to satisfy the curiosity it no longer challenges us and we crave something new to learn.

Emilie calls us multipotentialites and wrote a book called How To Be Everything. A Guide for those who still don’t know what they want to be when they grow up.

Another expert on mutipotentiality is Barbara Sher and in her book Refuse to Choose!: Use All of Your Interests, Passions, and Hobbies to Create the Life and Career of Your Dreams she calls us scanners.

Margaret Lobenstine called us renaissance souls in her book The Renaissance Soul: How to Make Your Passions Your Life because in the Renaissance period in history when people were encouraged and celebrated for being knowledgeable and accomplished in many fields.

I’ve learned that there is even a distinction between multipotentialite and polymath or Renaissance person as multipotentiality is the potential a person has in their many interests while polymaths are experts in multiple fields.

Of all the terms to describe us, I relate to multi-passionate which Marie Forleo coined to describe herself as a multi-passionate entrepreneur.

So there you have it. We will explore this further in future episodes and I’m so excited to interview the many fabulous multipassionate artists out there who are thriving.
