Irish Canadian Folk Duo Dandelion Highway To Release The Crossing EP
“If you are a fan of folk music, this is one of the sweetest, happiest, and joyful little gems you would want in your collection.” – Joe Taylor, Blast Toronto
Craving modern Folk music uniquely steeped in Irish and Canadian singer-songwriter traditions? Then dive into the world of Dandelion Highway formed in 2023 by musical duo Kayleigh McGavock and Chris Sytnyk.
Dandelion Highway’s debut 5 song E.P. The Crossing, recorded with Canadian producer, musician and composer Ron Lopata (Jacksoul, Jully Black, Lindi Ortega) is set to be released March 1, 2025.
The Crossing EP has hit the Top 10 Folk & Roots charts at various campus radio stations across Canada including a #1 at CFUR in Prince George, B.C.
Americana UK’s Andrew Frolish said that “ “We Are Gold” will make you feel better simply for having heard it. The song itself hangs on a terrific bass-line from Canadian Chris Sytnyk; its pulsing melody is totally absorbing and provides a great foundation for flourishes of electric guitar and violin.
Floating above the music, the vocals of Sytnyk and his band-mate Kayleigh McGavock are seemingly effortless and gently understated, blending perfectly and creating a celebratory mood.”
Born and raised in Waterford, Ireland, McGavock is a soulful folk singer with a uniquely creative approach to the guitar. Sytnyk is a Canadian touring and session musician who has shared the stage and studio with some of Canada’s biggest musical acts.
The two artists began collaborating after attending a concert for Irish singer CMAT together and realizing they shared a love for Irish Folk Songs, puppies and grapefruit tea.
The Songs of The Crossing:
“Home” beautifully captures the traditional Celtic side of their sound, while the lyrics share conflicting feelings about leaving home for the possibilities of a new country.
“We Are Gold” invites you to look back on past relationships with fondness.
“The Crossing” is a hopeful refrain for the homesick who fear the change that may come with distance and time.
“Lullaby” was created in the first writing session the two had and was based on a poem Kayleigh wrote with her roommates during the long lonely days of the pandemic.
“Chroí Álainn” is in Gaelic and about the expectations that we put onto young people. Be who you want to be, open and honest and that will be your greatest strength.
