Dandelion Highway’s “The Crossing”: A Musical Refrain for the Homesick
Irish Canadian folk duo Dandelion Highway are set to release the third single and video “The Crossing” from their upcoming EP of the same name. The song offers a hopeful refrain for the homesick.
One half of the duo, Kayleigh McGavock knows that homesick feeling intimately after having moved from Waterford, Ireland to Toronto, Canada. Her collaborator Chris Sytnyk, is a Canadian touring and session musician who has shared the stage and studio with some of Canada’s biggest musical acts. The two artists began collaborating after attending a concert for Irish singer CMAT together and realising they shared a love for Irish Folk Songs, puppies and grapefruit tea.
Dandelion Highway was formed and they have been attracting fans one single and one live show at a time. ““The Crossing” is for all my fellow immigrants, or for anyone missing friends or family living far away,” says McGavock. “ The song expresses some insecurity that relationships will change with distance and time.”
The little swinging outro is supposed to be defiant: “the hands each side, the sea that binds, that shifts the tide, each time I’m crossing.” “It meant to me that love like that is always there, no matter how far away, sure as the tide.”
