Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an American actor, filmmaker, singer, and entrepreneur who has an online platform where creatives of all types can collaborate with others on projects called HitRecord.
As a child, he appeared in the films A River Runs Through It, 10 Things I Hate About You and in the TV series 3rd Rock From The Sun. He has since starred in (500 Days of Summer, Inception, 50/50, The Dark Knight Rises, and Snowden. He has received multiple acting award nominations including for The Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, MTV Movie Awards, and the Teen Choice Award.
In 2004, during a slow time in his acting career, he began HitRecord, an online platform where creatives of all types can collaborate with others on projects. In 2014, Joseph won the Interactive Media Emmy Award for Social TV Experience for HitRecord on a Tv show that he created, hosted and directed.
As you may have noticed in previous recordings from Collision conference, the sound is not the greatest, but the content is valuable. First up both Joseph and Hitrecord co-founder Jared Geller explain how the company formed and how it has evolved over the years.

In your talk on the main stage, you mentioned not wanting to follow the model that most social platforms follow when it comes to advertising. How are you monetizing the platform while maintaining the positive environment of collaboration? Is it from partnerships with brands that you mentioned?
They were asked how they kept going all these years when for a long time it seemed that no one was paying attention.
The fact that they have grown organically without advertising is a refreshing approach when it comes to entrepreneurship. Can you talk a bit about that?
Next someone mentioned that they understand the creative side and wondered how easy or difficult it was to build the business and tech side of the platform to get it to where it is today.
For the last question, they were asked how they plan to scale the platform so that it is recognizable enough that the everyday consumer could interact with the brand as a platform.
