Martina McBride recently told Rolling Stone magazine that mentoring younger artists, especially women, is important. “When women support each other, they’re strong as a whole,” she says, “and any woman who has a win, it’s a win for all of us.” McBride delivered on that statement with the two female opening acts for the Love Unleashed tour stop at Casino Rama.

First up was Hailey Whitters who wrote two songs on McBride’s latest album Reckless including “Low in the Afternoon” which she performed in her set. Whitters is an entertaining singer songwriter reminiscent of Miranda Lambert in both vocals and songwriting style. Stand out tracks include “One More Hell”, “Black Sheep” and a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.”

Shelly Fairchild was on next and her strong bluesy rock voice knocked the audience over with its power. Fairchild mentioned that she was McBride’s background singer on the Everlasting tour so again it showed that McBride is an artist that truly supports up and coming female artists.

McBride took the stage in silver glitter pants and a flowing black blouse while belting out “Love’s The Only House” off her Emotion album followed by one of her first big hits from 1993 “My Baby Loves Me.” After a few more songs, McBride left center stage to play the piano and sing a soulful version of “It Ain’t Pretty” off the new album Reckless.

Since the concert was in December, McBride treated the audience to a few holiday classics including “Let It Snow” and “Please Come Home For Christmas.” The highlight of the show was “Broken Wing” where she hit those famous notes like only she can and followed it up with her signature song “Independence Day.”
