Demovictions top of mind for Joe Keithley, punk rocker and Burnaby mayoral contender

It’s the sixth attempt at getting elected to public office for the D.O.A. frontman.

B.C. punk rocker Joe Keithley first ran for office in 1996 — and then in 1997, 2001, 2016 and 2017.

He’s hoping to be “sixth time lucky” in the upcoming B.C. municipal elections, where he’s running for Mayor of Burnaby with the Green Party.

Burnaby’s current mayor, Derek Corrigan, has held the post for the past 16 years, but his total combined time as a city councilor and mayor totals 31 years. His party, the NDP-allied Burnaby Citizens Assembly, currently hold all seats on council.

Burnaby mayor Derek Corrigan has trounced all of his opponents since he first ran for mayor in 2002.

His NDP-affiliated Burnaby Citizens Association has held all seats on council and school board since the 2008 election, making it the most powerful local political machine in B.C.

But that hasn’t dissuaded local punk musician Joe Keithley from putting his name forward as the next challenger to the BCA’s hegemony.

The man also known as Joey Shithead with D.O.A. says he’s going to run for mayor with a full slate of Green candidates “to restore long-lost democracy to our city hall”.  Read the full article in the Georgia Straight
