Canadian singer-songwriter Tamara Maddalen premieres the music video for “Rearview” the second single from the forthcoming full-length album, Mint Green Mercury. “The song is for anyone who has faced the difficulty of letting go and moving forward in life,” says Maddalen, “once unstuck the “Rearview” represents looking back at oneself reflectively but from a place of healing and growth.
“Rearview” delivers a free flow of nostalgia and melodic emotion. Mesmerizing and soothing vocals float over a sea of languid pedal steel guitar and sweet organ set to a steady hypnotic groove of bass and drums. The video’s storyline was guided by the context of the song and lyrics.
“Letting go is never easy and it’s a struggle to move forward and grow, that requires a lot of hard work to get to a place where you can look back but not go backward,” explains Maddalen. “I’ve had great musical mentors and good friends that have guided me musically and this song is a product of all the opportunities I was afforded that I grew from. This video paints the story of my past and present in parallel.”
Filmmaker Michael Penney (Afterlight Films), who also directed her “Fade Away” video released in May, directed the video. Along with country road scenes shot around Dundas, Ontario, the video includes a studio performance at B-Town Sound in Burlington, where Maddalen has been recording the album with producer/engineer Justin Koop (Walk Off The Earth, Tomi Swick)

“I am looking forward to showcasing some of the new songs off the upcoming album Mint Green Mercury and to performing stripped-down acoustic versions, which will be an intimate experience for me as the performer and for those tuning into the live stream. This is a first for me and I am so excited to explore this new way to connect with fans and the listening public. It’s pretty amazing that anyone anywhere can tune in and participate. I’ve watched some great Live Streams myself of artists I admire and am really stoked to be able to incorporate this myself thanks to the suggestion of my team!” – Tamara Maddalen
