PR consultant and certified coach practitioner, Diane Foy has spent fourteen years’ at the helm of her own agency, Skylar Entertainment, overseeing all aspects of her clients’ media goals from image to branding, press kits to interviews and event planning to digital marketing.
Entrepreneurial and artistic herself, she easily makes her clients feel comfortable with the media, aware that doing press can sometimes be intimidating or overwhelming for artists and performers. Diane makes it fun, easy and effective.
The talent she has worked with comes from many artistic industries, including Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell, actor, singer and author MacKenzie Phillips, filmmaker Mary Harron, Pretty Little Liars actor Tyler Blackburn, Trailer Park Boys actor/comedian Robb Wells, fine artist Todd White, radio & TV personality Meredith Shaw, rock singer Sass Jordan, Gordie Johnson-led blues-rock band Big Sugar, South Africa’s best-selling music act The Parlotones, and legendary punk act DOA and its political candidate frontman Joe Keithley (her longest client, at 10 years).
Her ability to work in various creative fields can be traced to her schooling and initial work experience. Diane graduated from the Professional Photography program at Langara College and the Makeup Artistry program at Blanche MacDonald Institute, both in Vancouver, B.C. She freelanced as a photographer and makeup artist for the next few years with actors, musicians/bands and fashion models as her subjects. Relocating to Toronto in 1996, she worked as a make-up artist at MAC Cosmetics for eight years, in addition to freelancing for countless fashion shows and photography/video shoots.
Looking to find her place in the music industry, Diane graduated from a journalism program and began writing about music for an online magazine. In 2003, she enrolled in the Entertainment Management program at Trebas Institute and started her own company, Skylar Entertainment, upon graduation.
Diane’s fashion and beauty background was incorporated into the business by offering image development services in addition to publicity. Ahead of the curve, she also embraced the burgeoning digital era, incorporating social media and online blogs in her PR campaigns.
In 2017, Diane began the transition to using her own name for her brand and owning all of her experience, knowledge, and interests. As a pet care specialist, she is passionate about animals and helping pet parents choose the right nutrition and care for their furry kids. Diane is an advocate for mental health and for six years ran a blog called Coming Out Of The Dark. She has re-discovered her love of photography and capturing special moments in addition to exploring other creative expressions such as jewelry making.
With decades of experience working in creative fields and running her own business, Diane began to discover that her true purpose was to coach artists and creative entrepreneurs to reach their goals. She is a certified coach practitioner and is furthering her education in creativity coaching, digital marketing, and holistic pet nutrition and psychology.
Public relations will continue to be a focus, however, through coaching, she is able to truly serve the creative community by guiding them from moving past creative blocks and anxiety to increase productivity to discovering their brand identity and target market. The process will prepare clients to be ready for the strategies of digital marketing and media relations to further their goals.
