When The Band Perry announced that, they would be playing at the Mod Club, I jumped at the chance while wondering why a band that would normally play amphitheaters would be playing a small club. Rolling Stone answered that it was a small Pop Up Tour to showcase music from their upcoming album My Bad Imagination due later this year. After watching the band on the Tonight Show I was very confused on their new direction however I was willing to give it a chance.

The show was equally confusing at first as it is hard to wrap your mind around this complete change in image and sound, however, the Perry siblings know how to entertain and quickly drew the audience into their new world. With their in the round stage set up the venue capacity was probably cut in half which added to the intimate atmosphere. The energy was electric and you could tell the group was having a lot of fun interacting with fans and taking selfies with many.

Along with the new tunes, the band updated two of their country hits “Done” and “Better Dig Two” to sound more pop, however, when it came to “If I Die Young” the audience was treated to the original country version complete with sing-a-long.

Here is a video from the New York show

The band is extremely talented so you cannot help but route for them to be successful with the new direction. Either way you know that country music fans will welcome them warmly at any time they wish to return.
