TIFF Media Day Saturday, September 8, 2018
PR client actor Julian Bailey was in Toronto during the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of The Hummingbird Project in which he was a principal actor. The film was directed by Canadian Kim Nguyen and stars Alexander Skarsgård, Jesse Eisenberg, Salma Hayek, and Michael Mando.
Julian and I had a busy day planned full of gifting lounges, parties and of course the red carpet premiere. We met up at TIFF media central, the Intercontinental hotel and visited the annual Out There with Melissa DiMarco hospitality lounge where producers, directors, actors and other TIFF delegates gather between films, meetings, and interviews to grab a bite to eat and chat with guests.
Next, we headed over to the Hollywood North Style Lounge produced by Mode Events and features Canadian fashion designers. Since Julian’s premiere was at 3 pm he arrived already suited up, however, he spotted the perfect bow tie to complete his look. The tie was designed by textile artist Dee Silkie in collaboration with Matty’s Fab Avenue. Matty and Dee were excited that their 100% silk hand-printed bow tie was going to be seen on a TIFF red carpet and were fantastic in styling Julian.
At the NKPR Swarovski IT Lounge Julian was photographed by the talented Katherine Holland.
The red carpet outside the Princess of Wales theatre was packed with photographers and fans waiting for the arrival of the cast of The Hummingbird Project. Personally, I was thrilled to meet Alexander Skarsgard and was impressed at how much time he spent meeting fans.
After the excitement of the film premiere, it was time to visit the exclusive Preaux Pop Up Lounge where we were able to charge our phones and meet a variety of film producers and financiers. We were on our way to another party when I got a text from my friend and respected journalist Karen Bliss who told me that Michael Moore invited everyone to his Fahrenheit 11/9 afterparty.
The filmmaker did not keep the crowd waiting, arrived quick and preceded to speak and answer questions for an hour. It was a special experience. As a side note, I would like to thank Michael Moore for feeding us! Most of the private invite-only events have an open bar and tiny appetizers. It was satisfying to have pizza, burgers and other great offerings before heading out to various after parties.
Next, we went to the TIFF Lightbox for the Refinery29 and TNT’s Shatterbox Rooftop Sunset Celebration for another red carpet experience. From there we attended the HanWay Films Farming party where we ran into some of Julian’s co-stars and the producer from The Hummingbird Project. We ended the night at the annual Blue Ice Pictures party which is always a fun time.
“Diane Foy is a hard worker and straight shooter who offers keen insight into the world of entertainment publicity, as well as guidance on how to make the most of every opportunity. It was a pleasure working with her at TIFF 2018!” –Julian Bailey
